------------------------------------------------------------------

THE CREATOR HAS A SUCCESSION PLAN consists of field recordings taken at the Castalia salt marsh in Grand Manan
NB, with analog delay applied in editing.

Salt marshes occur when freshwater sediment, gathering in tidal flats, causes ocean flooding to recede, allowing plant life to establish itself in negotiation with the changing coastline. This succession of growth and decay enriches the soil, while developing root systems stabilise the earth, leading to robust environments of survival and renewal. Exploding preconceptions of time and change, Castalia is also the location of a drowned forest, its stumps and roots still visible, submerged over three thousand years ago and preserved in the peat.

Here, any overweening control or narrative is redundant, and even conventional human interruption of marsh spaces (referred to as 'land reclamation', in typical colonizing fashion) is held in abeyance. Left to themselves, such environments embody processes of constant creation and expiration, repeating and refracting throughout the space and time they occupy. Reverence for an authoritative form or origin is supplanted instead by an ever present, ever passing continuation.

Millions had been produced, although their purpose was hard to see. Later it was found that unusual objects could be made from them. ... more
